Ellovi body butter review

Ellovi is a small company dedicated to making 100% natural body butters that will leave your skin soft and hydrated. To learn more about this up and coming company, check out their story here -> Ellovi- What we’re all about.

I received a 3.5 ounce jar of butter courtesy of to try it out and review. It arrived in the mail fairly quick, with a small note to place in refrigerator if it arrived melted. Due to it being summertime and pretty hot weather, it did arrive melted. So the note was a great idea on their part. After about ten minutes in the fridge, my body butter was ready to use.

The butter smelled a lot like coconut- which was a nice surprise to me as I expected the typical shea butter ingredients. It’s the perfect solution for dry skin and since it is made of 100% natural ingredients might be good for all skin types to try out. It has no harsh chemicals or parabens, no animal testing or secret ingredients. Ellovi butter is made up of macadamia seed oil, coconut oil, hemp seed, marula nut, organic corn starch, and shea. It’s also made in California, and certified a vegan product.

I used Ellovi on my belly and legs mainly, but it’s designed for all over use. I also tested it on my face a few times, it was very lightweight and non-greasy, which is the perfect combination for all-over body butter. I love body butters because they are richer than lotions and feel like they moisturize much better, but cannot stand when they leave a greasy feeling especially on your face as it can lead to breakouts. Ellovi had a silky texture and applied smoothly, while penetrating your skin quick enough to avoid walking around with that greasy-feeling. Simply apply in a circular motion all over your body and enjoy the softness to follow. The perfect solution for dry knees and elbows, yet gentle enough for sensitive areas like your face and neck.

If you are a body butter lover, this is one product you need to try- you will not be disappointed. The coconut scent alone set it apart from other body butters I have tried. Did you know that water-based butters actually drain your skin of moisture rather than hydrating? Well, now you do! I read up on Ellovi’s page this interesting fact, and lucky for you Ellovi butter is not water-based; meaning it will moisturize your skin and keep it hydrated.

Check Ellovi out at to learn more benefits about their butter and purchase yourself one of their eco-friendly jars. Try it out and let me know how you liked it!

NYX Review

NYX the curve liquid eyeliner review

NYX designed this ergonomic beauty tool to make lining your eyes an easier task. I picked it up at Ulta to try it out, and was actually pretty impressed with the intense color and precision the felt tip pen delivered.

This liquid liner is a bit pricey for being a drugstore brand ($14.99). It says to be waterproof and quick drying. It does last me all day when applied, but does come off with water and face wash without having to viciously scrub your eyelids.

It applies easier than other liners I have used, so I see why it be a good liner for beginners or if you have a shaky hand when applying liquid liner. This liner is built for your hand to comfortably grasp it and use the felt tip to glide the liner over your eyelid for a close to perfect application.

Overall, I was pretty satisfied with my purchase. As mentioned, it is a bit pricey for being a drugstore brand; but the unique design and easier to use tip make it a recommended eyeliner. If you get shaky applying liner with those thin brush eyeliners, or are looking for an easy application tool- this is a good buy for you. Another pro about this liner is the intense jet black shade. It does seem to dry fairly quick, but you can go over it to make a straight line without the product looking cakey. A good tip if you have a hard time applying your liner in a straight line is to draw short lines over your lid, and then connect them.

Have you tried NYX’s the curve liner- How did you like it?

How to choose a clay mask for your skin type

There are many clay masks to choose from at drugstores and beauty departments, which can make selecting one on the spot a tough decision. If you know you will be going out to purchase a clay mask, it’s a good idea to do some research prior to on various brands so you are prepared. I went ahead and did just that, so you would have all you need to choose the right clay mask in this article.

A good tip to follow when searching for your best clay mask, is to try out sample sizes first ( like the ones they give out at beauty counters) that way you can test the product, before you commit. Many clay masks are now made to target various skin types, which means a few of the options below are interchangeable.

If you have dry skin: Look for moisturizing masks and steer clear of  acidic fruits which might dry your skin out more. Instead opt for water-filled fruits like peaches or watermelon. Your skin craves hydration, so be sure to keep it moisturized to battle dryness. Below are a few clay masks to keep your face hydrated and fighting dryness, all ranging in price to find one that works for you and your budget.

If you have oily skin: Look for a clay mask that has ingredients to help control shine without drying your face out. Aloe and seaweed are good shine-control ingredients as well as acidic fruits like lemon or strawberry. The first mask had awesome reviews, and is super affordable. The chocolate and strawberry work together to control shine without drying your skin, and the scent is said to be delicious. Check out all three masks to find one within your budget.

If you have combination skin: Then you have many options! You can look for one to control oil, or one for dry skin, or simply go for clay masks made for combination skin. Look for fruits and other natural ingredients in your mask. The first mask is my favorite, the avocado adds moisture and has tons of vitamins, and the oatmeal soothes your skin to avoid drying.  The rest of the masks are also for combination skin and vary in price.

If you have sensitive skin: Look for a clay mask with natural ingredients to ensure no bad side effects will occur. Purifying clay masks and hypoallergenic ones are good choices, because they will cleanse your face and be gentle on your skin at the same time. Below are three masks suitable for sensitive skin, and ranging in price to ensure you find what you are looking for without breaking the bank.

If you have rosacea: Don’t just pick up any product, be sure to look for one which helps reduce redness and can be used for sensitive skin. Another good tip when choosing a mask is to stop by a beauty counter and ask for samples. That way you can try out the product and make sure it will not have negative effect on your skin. The clay masks below are specifically made for rosacea and sensitive skin and range in price. “Keep the peace” by Philosophy has awesome reviews and you can trust in the brand.

If you are prone to acne: look for a clay mask that specifically says for acne treatment, or a clarifying one which helps reduce scarring. One ingredient you might want to look for is lemon, since it has healing properties and helps remove impurities. The masks below are meant for acne prone skin and range in price to fit your budget.

Le Beurre shop: shea butter skin care review

I recently received some amazing skin care products from Le Beurre shop, which included a variety of body butters, face cream, and lip balm. The main ingredient in all of them being shea butter. I was very excited about trying out these products, simply because of the fact they are cruelty-free and made of all natural products.

Shea butter is a fatty substance derived from the nuts of a shea tree. It’s a very popular ingredient in cosmetics, and lotions due to its hydrating and healing properties. It keeps skin soft and moisturized, and is also used to prevent stretch marks, and help diminish scars. Le Beurre shop focuses on “celebrating, honoring, and highlighting” shea butter by using it in all its products, so if you love a great and natural skin care product check out the review below and visit their site to browse their selection.

I received a pretty little box filled with products from Le Beurre shop to try and review. As i mentioned, I was very excited about trying out these all-natural products, because I know shea butter is a necessity when you are pregnant and trying to keep stretch marks away. With a growing belly, your skin stretches quickly and loses elasticity which in turn causes stretch marks. One way to battle them, is by keeping your skin hydrated which shea butter is very well known for doing. Below are pictures of the pretty packaging, and shea butter goodies included inside!

shea butter lip balm

Besides a growing belly, I have also had to deal with extra chapped lips. No matter how often i re-applied a few lip-balms, all tailored for dry-chapped lips, they just didn’t seem to be cutting it. Which is why I was very excited to see a small shea butter lip balm sample included.

I really liked the fact that this lip balm kept my lips moisturized, but didn’t feel heavy or greasy. Within a few days of wearing it, I noticed my lips didn’t feel as as chapped as they had previously been with other lip balms. I also didn’t need to re-apply as often as other lip balms because the shea butter really penetrated my lips to keep them from cracking and feeling dry. I Loved this lip balm, and highly recommend it to all of you who suffer from constant chapped lips, or for the winter season when dry lips are very common.

Shea butter face cream

I prefer light lotions when it comes to my face, so I was a bit worried I wasn’t going to like this face cream simply because it’s heavier than a lotion. I was also worried about the fact sometimes creams with shea butter can leave a greasy feeling behind, but I am glad to say Le Beurre delivered with this product. As mentioned a cream is heavier than a lotion, but it wasn’t as much as I had expected. It was buttery to the touch, and non-greasy after applying. Throughout the day, I could feel the cream remained on my face and kept it hydrated without that greasy feeling.

Le Beurre offers shea butter creams for the body in various scents including the original unscented above, and the ones pictured below:lavender, vanilla, lemongrass, and sage. All the creams left my skin feeling baby-soft, and the scented ones offered a nice and subtle fragrance. They do their job at keeping skin super moisturized, and have a buttery texture- to best describe it.

The unscented one still had a nice and natural scent to it, and I loved how smooth all the creams felt. My skin is already soft as is, but the shea butter creams gave it a silky-soft feel that stayed put throughout the whole day. My husband even noticed, and kept complementing me on how extra soft my skin was feeling.

Le Beurre’s shea butter creams are the perfect cure for dry skin, especially extra dry areas like elbows, knees and heels. They also work as cuticle moisturizers for your nails, in other words they are the perfect prescription for soft skin from head to toe.

Maybelline color tattoo eyeshadow review

The perfect eyeshadow would stay on all day, without creasing and look just as vibrant at the end of the day as it looked in the morning. Maybelline decided to make this a reality with their color tattoo eyeshadow line by Eyestudio. Let’s put them to the test and see just how permanent this eyeshadow is…

Nothing is more permanent than a tattoo, which makes the name a perfect fit for an eyeshadow promising color that stays put all-day. The colors look vibrant, and each pot of eyeshadow costs about $6 at Target. Pretty good price, but does the tattoo shadow deliver as promised?! Keep reading and see how it worked for me.

Maybelline “bold gold” tattoo eyeshadow review

I purchased the color tattoo eyeshadow in “bold gold”  because I was looking for a neutral shade, and am a sucker for a pretty gold shadow. It looked very vibrant and shimmery in the pot, and applied so smoothly accross my eyelid. The color was very pigmented and stayed on all day with no primer applied!  The texture was silky so applying it with fingertips was much easier, and looked better than using a brush. As you can see below, the eyeshadow pot is a pretty generous size and it flaunts 24 hour wear.

Take a look at how the eyeshadow looks when applied in the pictures below. Glitter and gold galore!

The eyeshadow looks so pretty worn alone and lined with liner, great for a quick daytime look. As already mentioned, application of the product is super smooth. The shadow looks silky-smooth in the container, and when you touch/apply it the texture is exactly the same. At first I was not too happy about the shadow being creamy since there’s a greater chance for creasing, but color tattoo proved me wrong 🙂

Worn all day and did not crease, or fade. The pigmentation is great in these shadows, and considering the pot is a pretty big size it is priced very reasonably. If you have been wanting to try out these eyeshadows, I definitely recommend them. If you are unsure of which color to buy, get “bold gold”. It’s a gorgeous color and works well with all skin tones!

The 7 best tips for summer hair care

Most of us long for summer so we can lounge underneath the sun and just be, but we sometimes forget the effect different seasons have on our hair.  A few things to blame for stressed out tresses are the sun, chlorine from pools and sand and salty water from the beach.

You don’t have to sacrifice your vacation to maintain luscious hair, simply check out these quick tips to help keep dry hair hydrated!

  1. Apply a moisturizer or hair oil ONCE a week around summertime. Be sure to massage through from your scalp to the ends. One moisturizer that i have tried and loved is by Ojon. Their Dry Recovery intensive hair mask smells so yummy, and leaves hair soft. The best part, you only leave it on for only two minutes!
  2. Shampoo less or use a non-stripping shampoo like Wen. Shampooing everyday can cause hair to become dry and strip haircolor.  I started using Wen a couple years ago, and still love the way it maintains my hair. Check out my Wen Review! Besides not fading haircolor, it also leaves my hair soft, shiny and manageable minus the detergent and surfactants found in most shampoos.
  3. Enjoy the heat from outside not from your blow dryer! Cut back on styling with heat, especially if it is a daily ritual. Instead try casual and cool hairstyles for summer, like braids and high buns. Read this post for -> perfect and casual summer hair tutorials.
  4. Get a trim. Hair is said to grow fastest around summer, so it’s a good idea to cut all the damaged ends around this time.
  5. Keep your body hydrated. As they say, health is from within. If you keep your body healthy, hair and nails will follow. Drink enough water to avoid dehydration, it is also said to help hair grow and prevent hair loss.
  6. If you must use styling products, use one with UV protection. Biosilk shine-on finish spray is a good candidate since it protects from the sun, controls frizz and is super light on hair. Spritz this all over just before heading out to the beach!
  7. Keep it cool! Rinse off hair after swimming with cool water not hot. This will help remove salt and chlorine. This is very important, especially if you don’t have access to shower immediately. Rinsing your hair with cool water is not only for summertime, it’s a year-round tip. You can shower in warm water, and just before you are going to step out switch to cool and rinse your hair. This helps close the cuticle and seal in moisture.

Keeping hair moisturized around summertime might seem like a tough task, hopefully these tips simplified it a bit.
