Considering eyelash extensions? Check out my experience and review first!

When I was about seven years old, I decided it would be a good idea to cut my eyelashes. Very short, almost to the point where I had no eyelashes left. A decision I wasn’t bothered by much when I was younger, but as I have grown I always wondered if my eyelashes would be much longer if I would’ve never cut them off. So when I heard about the awesome procedure that gave you long and luscious eyelashes, with upkeep, I went for it.

I was at the salon, getting my nails done, when I saw a special they were having on eyelash extensions and decided to get them done. I knew this place was good, and had yelped them on their services prior to my visit. The technician was pretty fast, with the whole process taking about an hour and a half. She guided me through what she was going to do. And once she was done, provided me with aftercare instructions. She advised me not to let water touch my lashes for the next 48 hours to ensure the lashes adhere well and remain put. Also gave me a lash comb,(which is pretty much a small mascara wand) so I could  brush them, as well as remove anything that could get caught on them. She also told me to wash them with baby soap to keep them gently clean. Then came the fun part, I got to check out my pretty lashes in the mirror! I was so happy with my beautiful, LONG, and curled lashes; I could not wait to go show them off!

Before eyelash extensions

After eyelash extensions

I followed instructions that were provided and went back for a fill after three weeks. I kept the routine going for about six months, then due to a busier schedule decided to say farewell to my pretty long lashes.

Overall, I loved the experience of having lash extensions. I liked the fact I didn’t have to apply any eye makeup or eyeliner and still felt put together. They got me lots of compliments,  and since I chose a natural yet dramatic look, they could pass as my own. Once all my extensions fell out, I noticed my natural lashes seemed shorter. And since I already had small lashes to begin with, that was not a good thing. I was worried the extensions had damaged my natural lashes, but within a month or so my lashes lengthened out. Perhaps I was just so used to having long lashes, once they were gone I had to get reacquainted with my natural lashes. Or maybe the weight of the extensions caused temporary damage to my natural ones. Either way, my lashes are back to normal.

If you are wondering whether or not you should get lash extensions,  I say go for it. However, check out the place you go to prior to getting them done to ensure they know what they are doing. Also, ask questions before you get them done to be sure your technician is knowledgeable. And be prepared to commit time and money to your lashes. Fills take about 30-45 minutes and range from $70 and up, and they must be done every 2-4 weeks. The first application ranges from $100 and up depending on the type of lashes you are getting and usually take about 2 hours to apply.

How to add glamour to your eyelashes

Other than the fact that eyelashes protect the eyes from dust and debris, they also are a feature of facial beauty. Since the eyes are the window to the world, we tend to communicate a lot with them; making eyelashes an equally important part of our features. For example when we are batting or fluttering our eyelashes, we are stressing or bringing meaning to particular words. It would certainly help if the eye lashes were long, thick and immaculate, adding extra beauty to your eyes and face. Unfortunately, not all of us are born with beautiful eyelashes. But that’s where the art of makeup comes in handy. Read on to learn how to add glamour to your eyelashes and flaunt them!

1. Mascara

If you can apply some mascara the right way, then there is nothing better to make those eyelashes look gorgeous. The trick is to get all the strands separated from the others without globs of mascara sticking to them. To avoid the globs, apply the mascara first to the base of the lashes with the mascara wand and then wiggle it. Then, using the lash comb, gently brush the lashes settling in the mascara. If you choose not to use the comb, make sure you wipe the excess mascara from the wand with a tissue or cloth before touching the lashes.
Another thing to avoid while applying mascara are smudges. You can do so by applying some powder first onto the lower eyelids and then can apply the coat. Also try not to blink while applying as this can only cause it to stick to your eyelids and not the lashes. If you want your lashes thicker, then apply a second coat of mascara but do so before the first coat dries, or else the lashes will clump together.
Clean your mascara wand at all times, for the best results you can get out of applying your mascara. Use a makeup remover or some soap and water to remove any of the dried mascara.

2. False eyelashes

There is nothing wrong in using fake or false eyelashes to enhance those strands. These are now gaining popularity all around with most celebrities making use of it to bring the glamorous look to their eyes. If you get the right pair of fake eyelashes, you can make your ordinary eyes look exceptionally good, maybe even making it impossible to tell them apart. But before you invest in a pair, there are two things you need to take into consideration:

  • You need to determine the color first. Ideally you need to select a color that closely resembles your own lashes. But otherwise, select dark brown lashes if you have a light brown, while blonde or red hair and black eyelashes if you are a brunette with dark hair.
  • The length and fullness is where most women have difficulty. Pick a pair that appears shorter as once you wear it, they would look longer. It is also better to use individual lashes which look more natural than a single strip.

3. Natural remedies

If you don’t want to do any of the commercial remedies, then there are the home remedies which would not fetch you immediate results, but if practiced regularly would bring the glamorous look you want for your eyelashes. The natural methods are hassle free, have no side effects and are highly effective:

  • Before hitting the bed at night, apply a coat of castor oil or olive oil to your eyelashes.
  • Sometimes trimming your eyelashes a bit can also provide fast and effective results.
  • Apply some Vaseline on to your eyelashes using a mascara brush before going to bed.
  • Glycerin and castor oil mixed together in equal quantities applied to your eyelashes is known to enhance growth.

All the above mentioned methods may work for some, but not for others. Since it’s your eyes you are working with, you need to be careful with the application methods and other factors. If you find that a particular brand of mascara is causing eye irritation, stop using it, no matter how expensive or effective it is. Similarly, while applying the glue for the false eyelashes, be very careful as to not apply them on your eyelids. Adding a touch of glamour to your eyelashes is important to look and feel good, but above all, it’s how you carry yourself that matters. So whichever method you choose, make sure you are comfortable with it and everything will fall in place.

LED light eyelashes

Strange yet very unique! That’s how I would describe LED eyelashes.

What exactly are LED eyelashes?

I asked myself that same question when I was forwarded the idea to write a blog on it. LED ( light emitting diode) eyelashes are pretty much artificial lashes that light up! Their purpose is to emphasize the eyes and make them appear bigger. They’re equipped with a sensor that allows you to turn the lights on or off simply by tilting your head and were created by an artist, Soomi Park from Seoul.

Personally I wouldn’t mind wearing some flashy lashes for Halloween or some kind of crazy dress up event. Daily wear? I don’t think so. Don’t get me wrong the design and idea behind them is great, it just seems a little too drastic for my taste. It would be cool to try on a pair of these lashes, do your daily routine and check out the reactions from people around you. I also watched a video on them and they looked very cute on the model, though i’m unsure how safe it is having those lights flashing so close to your eyes. I doubt an LED eyelash invasion will happen, but it’s always nice to be informed on different beauty inspired trends out there. Many women worldwide go to great extremes to correct flaws they see or emphasize beauty assets, so in reality who are we to judge what others perceive as beautification methods. Speak for yourself and post your response towards LED eyelashes!
