The best nude lip tutorial

Nude lipstick and subtle makeup is by far one of my favorite looks. Mainly because it’s a neutral look, and also nude shades make your lips appear fuller. Another plus is nude lips can be worn year-round.

There are a few lipsticks I have purchased, which were advertised as a “nude”shade but actually appear more pinker or darker than I prefer. So below are a few lipsticks which are a true nude for you to checkout.

I have noticed that some nude lipsticks dry my lips, so you will need to start with soft lips. Be sure to exfoliate and moisturize your lips to avoid flaky skin. An easy DIY tip is to take some sea salt and mix it with a bit of coconut oil. Apply the mix to you lips and rub in a circular motion for a minute or two. Rinse off with cool water and you are set. Do this once or twice a week for baby soft lips.

Quick steps to achieve a nude lip

  • Start with a lip liner to achieve defined lips, with lipstick that stays in place. If you are not a big fan of lip liner, you can go for lipstick alone. However, the reason I do recommend lip liner is, because you can better define your lips and it prevents lipstick from bleeding (or fanning out). Lip liner can also help lips look plumper, since you can use it to subtly line a little bit over your natural lip line for an illusion of a bigger pout. Find a good shade to match your nude lipstick by either matching the exact shade, or using a nude liner a few shades darker.

how to apply nude lipstick

  • Once your lips are lined, use a brush to lightly blend the liner into your lips. This helps liner and lipstick to blend for a more natural look.

  • Now you are ready for that color. Apply your lipstick. A quick tip to make your lipstick last longer is: press a tissue between your lips to remove a bit of color, then apply setting powder to lips with a brush, and re-apply lipstick. If you’d like, you can apply clear lip balm, but it’s not needed if you started with exfoliated lips.

The best Dia de los muertos makeup tutorials

Dia de los muertos or Day of the dead is celebrated in Mexican culture as a day to honor and remember relatives who have passed away. This is done by making altars with pictures of your relatives no longer here and visiting their graves to bring food. This celebration takes place from October 31st to November 2nd, it’s believed the souls of those who have passed are allowed to walk the earth.

Sugar skulls are closely tied with dia de los muertos. Each skull is said to represent a departed soul. They can be very elaborate and as original as you’d like. There are many makeup tutorials on creating the sugar skull look, and below are a few which I believe to be the best. Check them out for inspiration to help you create your best sugar skull look.

Purple and bronze smokey eye makeup tutorial

Smokey eye shadow looks are a common love among most girls. Celebrities like Kim Kardashian, Beyonce and Kristen Stewart have been seen sporting different forms of smokey eye makeup looks. This look works great no matter what you complexion is.

Here is a fun purple smokey eye shadow tutorial with a pop of bronze. Make sure to team this look up with a winged liner look, since they look great together. This makeup look can be great for any evening event and will match almost any cocktail dress you choose.

So let’s go straight into how to create this smokey purple and bronze eye shadow look!

Things you will need:

  • eyeshadow primer
  • face compact
  • Eye shadow (Colours Needed Silver, Bronze, Purple, Charcoal/Black)
  • Black Eyeliner pencil
  • Liquid Eye Liner
  • Kajal/Black liner
  • Mascara
  • Lash Curler
  • Lash Comb

Step 1:
On clean eye lids, apply eye shadow primer and blend for a flawless makeup application. Applying primer prior to shadow ensures your look lasts all day and prevents the eye shadow from creasing.

Step 2:
Apply Bronze eye shadow on the whole of the lid without creating any extensions. Apply very evenly on to the whole of the rim.

Step 3
Apply the purple eye shadow on just the crease. Make an enclosed jacket with the purple eye shadow.

Step 4:
Now take the charcoal or black eye shadow and apply on the exterior of the lid to create a Smokey effect. This will give this shadow look an exotic touch.

Step 5:
Now use the silver highlighter on the whole of the brow bones. Also apply on to the eye and nose joint.

Step 6:
The shadowing part is done. Time to move onto the liner. Make a tailed liner extension on to the upper lid only. Do not make it not too thick but as a thin and sleek line running from near the nose joint to the exterior in a winged form.liquid eyeliner on smokey eyes

Step 7:
Use a black liner pencil or a kajal on the lower rim. Join the lines at the eye ends but do not extend in a winged form. This will give a completely different kind of a look to this eye makeup other than the usual form of winged extensions.

Step 8:
Use mascara in a top-down way on the upper lashes and in a zig zag way onto the lower lashes.

Step 9:
Comb the lashes with a lash comb to avoid getting any clumps of mascara. Follow up with another coat of  mascara if you’d like.

How to wear colored eyeliner

I’m sure you’ve seen those pretty teal and purple eyeliners, but have you ever wondered how to wear them? This post will teach you cute techniques on how to try out this colorful trend for yourself.

  • A nice way to wear colored eyeliners and add more intensity at the same time, is by layering over black liner. Check out step-by-step pictures below so you get a visual idea.

1. Start by applying black eyeliner over your top lid.

 2. Layer colored eyeliner over the black line on your top lid.

 3. Apply mascara, and if you’d like apply colored liner to the bottom lid as well.

  • Another thing you can try, is using two different colored eyeliners. In the pictures below I opted for blue and gold liners.

  • If you want to add eyeshadow, try neutral colors so the main emphasis remains on the bright eyeliner. Nice eyeshadows which work well with most colors are gold, taupe, pearl and similar shades. Of course, if your going for a super bright look, pack on the color!

  • If you prefer black liner on your top lid, you can wear colored eyeliner on the bottom lid instead just like the picture below.

Regardless of how you choose to wear colored eyeliner, don’t forget to coat your lashes with mascara. To intensify the look, add false lashes. This pretty trend can be worn many ways as this post shows, and it’s a fun and easy way to add some color to your look.

Ombre lips tutorial

Ombre lips are a hot makeup trend in which a few shades are used to achieve a blended look with a color fading into a softer/darker shade.

One of my favorite ombre lips makeup artist is Loreleicakes, check out her instagram by clicking her name she has many pictures of different ombre lip looks and great makeup tips. This lip trend is pretty and wearable, just don’t try a blue look for the office:).

I like ombre lips in coral and pinks/reds the best. They are a nice look to try when you want to play up your lips. If you want to try this look during the day, just put on some blush, and a bit of eye liner and mascara. Keep it simple and let your lips take center stage.

Check out a quick tutorial below if you want to do ombre lips on yourself. You can test it out and use different colors to achieve your own personal look!

Best makeup for blue eyes

Enhance blue eyes and make them stand out with complementary colors.

As with green eyes, complementary colors for blue can be found by looking at colors directly across from the color wheel. Colors to enhance blue eyes are those in the orange and yellow families. Think copper, rust, gold and such shades.

Just because complementary colors are recommended, doesn’t mean other colors are off limits. Those are simply colors that better contrast your eye color in color theory as they are furthest away. Blues, greens and purples can also look great on blue eyes, but are not complementary. Check out great products to make your blue eyes pop, but in the end wear whatever colors fit your style and you are comfortable in.

A few products to brighten blues…

Laura Mercier baked eyeshadow- this beautiful shade lasts all day and has a vibrant look. This hue works great alone or worked into a smokey eye. Finish the look with a brown eyeliner or black for a more dramatic effect.

NYX eyeshadow– a glide-on texture at a great price. The shade is called “hot orange” and though it might look a bit eccentric, it can be used to create a beautiful sunset-look on your lids! Also check out “copper” and “rust”.
